This chart puts the magnitude of Canada's task in context. Our emissions in 1990 were 607 Mtonnes making our Kyoto target  571 Mtonnes.

We thus need to reduce emissions by about 240 Mtonnes from the expected level under "business as usual". That is close to a one third reduction from our current practice.
A cynic would also note that our emissions estimates are increasing every couple of years when they are re-evaluated.
