30 Fairmont Park Lane S Re: Belated One Tonne Challenge CommitmentWhy is Minister David Anderson so late in committing to the Kyoto related One-Tonne Challenge program? (“Canada wages war on climate change”, Lethbridge Herald, March 27, A7) The One-Tonne Challenge is included in the Climate Change Plan for Canada. It was released on November 21, 2002. Some of us have already taken on the challenge and have a year of action behind us. We have established our household greenhouse gas emissions for 2001 and 2002 for reference. They are publicly documented in preliminary form on Computare’s website at www.computare.ca under “GHG Emissions”. We have yet to calculate our 2003 emissions to measure our progress against 2001-2002 emissions. My challenge is to Minister Anderson. The picture accompanying the news story shows him signing up for the One-Tonne Challenge. I’m asking that he consider publicly documenting and demonstrating personal greenhouse gas emissions reduction at his homes. Yours truly,
Duane Pendergast Cc: The Honourable David Anderson, P.C., M.P.
