Wednesday, June 25, 2003 Sierra Club has given Alberta an F on climate change while the federal government gets an A (“Feds get high environmental marks”, Thursday, June 26, 2003, A10). Alberta Environment is disappointed? Don’t be. Get some badges made up and wear them with pride. Alberta dared to point out that ratification of Kyoto puts Canada on a path to a near impossible goal. Emperor Chrétien stubbornly went ahead anyway in a naked response to woefully misinformed public opinion. Canada could find itself a billion tonnes short of the Kyoto greenhouse gas reduction goal. The United Nations could be clamouring for a penalty payment of enormous magnitude. I wonder if Canadians will remember Alberta’s good advice when the Kyoto score keeping comes up after 2012. Yours truly,
Duane Pendergast
