Re: Environmental groups should be chided

Dear Editor

Environmental groups should be chided, at the very least, (“Ottawa chided on approach to Kyoto goals”, January 18, 2005) for their duplicity in getting Canadians into the Kyoto mess and promoting the ineffective greenhouse gas reduction actions our government has implemented.

Now, six of these groups are lobbying our government based on information from a secret government document on Kyoto allegedly leaked to the press. Their letter to the Prime Minister is on the Pembina Institute’s website.  It appears they are privy to the “secret” information while the general public is not.  Is the leak from government sources just to the press? Was the document leaked to environmental organizations too, or did the press selectively pass it on to them. This activity appears unsavoury, at best.

The public are left to wonder if they are being gamed and manipulated to support Kyoto by a government – press – environmental alliance while the facts are kept from them. Canadians should take heed of the recent books “Taken by Storm” by Essex and McKitrick and “State of Fear” by Michael Crichton.  Their eyes might be opened to the role vested interests are playing in the frightening establishment of a massive and unproductive global bureaucracy built on the questionable science of human induced global warming.

Yours truly,

Duane Pendergast
