Dear Editor:

Terence Corcoran raises doubts the Canadian Manufacturers Association claim they have reduced greenhouse gas emissions (“Business Botches Kyoto Strategy”, February 10 2005, FP15).  He suggests they have simply switched to electricity and thus use even more energy which contributes to greenhouse gas emissions.

It seems even the ever vigilant Mr. Corcoran is falling prey to the environmental organizations subtle strategy to paint all energy use as inefficient and wasteful and thus an excessive contributor to greenhouse gas emissions.

Perhaps Mr. Corcoran has forgotten that most of Canada’s manufacturing industry is located in Ontario and Quebec where most electricity is generated from greenhouse gas free nuclear energy and water driven turbines.

Perhaps the Post will invite the Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters to explain their greenhouse gas emission reductions.

Oh! By the way! Everything else Mr. Corcoran pointed out with respect to business and industry shirking responsibility to the public and themselves by playing along with the Kyoto mess seems to fit very well.

Yours truly,

Duane Pendergast
