30 Fairmont Park Lane S Terence Corcoran’s suggestion that the finance department take over the climate portfolio from Environment Canada is a bit careless. (Time for Finance to seize climate file, 05/11/03) That would just place Kyoto a step closer to the taxes we’ve paid. During his press conference following the revelations of the Gomery Commission, former PM Jean Chrétien claimed he established the sponsorship program to save Canada. He defensively and slyly cited his hasty ratification of Kyoto as an example of his decisiveness and touted it as another of the good deeds doubtlessly aimed at saving the world. It’s taken a decade and the Gomery Commission to debunk the sponsorship program. It may take two decades following our signing on to Kyoto in 1997, and another inquiry, to debunk Kyoto. Let’s, at least, get started on that investigation now. Yours truly,
Duane Pendergast
