30 Fairmont Park Lane S Dear Editor; Thank you very much for the article by Paul Geraghty (“Saskatchewan’s Badlands: My connection to the cosmos” 06/11/28, A19). We are beset by a barrage of doom and gloom. We are told of all kinds of horrors, ranging from climate change through all kind of pollution, to terminally running out of arable land and other resources. Most of these fears are said to be due to the human plague on the planet. Is it any wonder that some of the planet’s population is turning to suicidal and genocidal notions and acts? They could be excused for thinking there is little left to live for or that many of us should be eliminated. Should we humans return to our one time position as hunter-gathers existing on scraps from the "natural world"? I don’t think so. Mr. Geraghty, contemplating the history of the planet as told by the rocks, cuts away all the despair to bring a message of hope. His vision of an evolving planet, now becoming dependent on and supporting a vibrant and ingenious natural human component is – simply tremendously uplifting. Thanks again for publishing an article of overwhelming insight which provides the power to point us to the future. Yours truly, Duane Pendergast
