30 Fairmont Park Lane S My letter, published in the Herald on January 26, (Time to stop blaming CO2 emissions) pointed out that the concept of global warming has morphed into a mindset that CO2 emissions are the cause of most of the world’s problems. Several letters in response indicate an even baser twisting of the facts. It seems that global warming has become little more than a Trojan horse to cloak ideological hatred of “big oil” and humanity’s knowledge and use of energy. I remind readers that – love it or not – energy from oil has supported tremendous advances in the human condition over the last century. Environmental activists may come to rue the day they concocted their elaborate and unfounded scare stories in the name of global warming. Crying wolf may lull many into ignoring the possibility that human activity might have an effect on climate. Politicians may stop pandering to alarmists who are continually unable to demonstrate their assertions. Needed research to understand climate change and precautionary steps to develop technology to manage any influence humans may have, could suffer. I hope not – but such is the way of man and politics. Yours truly, Duane Pendergast
