Re: “Redford defends process for reviewing oilsands”

The recent decision by Justice Richard Marceau to allow the “Oil Sands Environmental Coalition” participation in an ongoing environmental review seems ill considered. Premier Redford indicates the province may appeal.

Policies have been established over many years to protect our environment while allowing development of resources. Periodic reviews have fine-tuned them. Environmental reviews of projects allow for input from affected citizens.

Environmental organization pronouncements and antics receive plenty of exposure in the media.

We don’t need to have them insinuating their self-identified expertise into environmental assessments. That intervention would just complicate and lengthen the adult environmental review process.

It’s good to see Premier Redford planning to stand up and represent the interests of the majority of Albertans.

Yours truly,

Duane Pendergast
